Command squads accompany high-ranking Space Marine officers on the field of battle. Most Captains fill their retinues with Space Marines in whom the bloody skills of combat are matched by a tactical and strategic brilliance. Service in a Command squad undoubtedly seeds promotion within the Chapter - its members fighting in the most gruelling of battles against the most terrible of foes.

Return Space Marines

Command Squads form well-equipped retinues for a Space Marine character. They're best used alongside a character equipped for close combat and, armed with bolt pistols and close combat weapons, have a good number of attacks when following him into assault. It's also better to give them two assault weapons rather than any heavy weapons as they will mostly be on the move and it gives them the option of targeting vehicles. Exactly how you use this unit depends on the character they're with but you can't go far wrong by rushing them forward and getting stuck into enemy units. Mounting the squad in a Rhino or Landraider will make this easier. The Specialist roles open to a command squad are useful but expensive in points. Only include these if your command squad is the main assault unit in your army.
