Z-Man Games
Players: 3 to 5
Ages: 12 and up
Playing Time: 90 minutes.
Feel
in the mood for a bit of world exploration and empire building?
Then
load up your ships and head out to undiscovered regions in the
Kiwi-designed boardgame Endeavor.
You
begin your colonisation as one of up to five European powers and
the aim is to open up trading routes to continents like the New
World, Africa, India and the Caribbean.
To
do this you must firstly get a home base then build a port from
which to send your explorers out.
Extra
resources - such as gold, bricks, population and political power
- are freely available in the trade routes and the more of the
trade you own the better your chances of grabbing the governorship
of the new colonies. This,
in turn, gives you extra benefits and victory points.
A
balanced spread of resources is vital as they not only have an
instant boost to your nation but determine victory points at the
end of the game.
The
brick level determines the type of buildings you can construct,
the amount of gold allows you to switch people between tasks and
the bigger the population the more choices you have during the
action phases.
With
your improving economy you can build more structures to boost
production or add population and choosing the right mix of buildings
is key to a successful strategy.
Controlling
cities within both Europe and the colonial world is also important
as each gives you a resource and if you have two settlements connected
by a trade route you get a bonus item.
Endeavor
is quick to learn but its intricacies will keep you continually
refining your path to world domination.
